Harvard Buildings Win Energy in Conservation Contest
Fifteen
Faculty of Arts and Sciences and Longwood buildings will win renewable
energy in the 2004 Go Cold Turkey Energy Conservation Challenge. The
wind energy certificates purchased for these buildings will move Harvard
from third to second place in terms of green power purchased by American
institutes of higher education, according to the records of the U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency's Green Power Partnership. (12/09/2004)
Turn off to Win Wind in Go Cold Turkey 2004
By participating in Go Cold Turkey 2004, students, staff and Faculty at FAS, Harvard Medical School, Harvard School of Public Health and Harvard School of Dental Medicine can notably decrease the greenhouse gas emissions and other environmental impacts of their on-campus energy use.
Prizes announced in environmental cartoon contest
Elizabeth Novey, Class of 2005, is the grand-prize recipient of $500 in the first annual Computer Energy Reduction Cartoon Competition (CERtoon). Fourteen other Harvard undergraduates will receive prizes for their entries. The finalists' cartoons will be exhibited around the Harvard campus and in public spaces in Cambridge through the end of the year to raise awareness about energy conservation. Parties interested in booking an exhibition should contact the FAS-Computer Energy Reduction Program (FAS-CERP). (4/22/2004)
Environmental cartoons raise awareness through humor
An exhibition featuring the best "energy conservation" cartoons in the 2004 CERtoon Competition will begin touring Harvard this month. Employees who would like the cartoons to be shown in their workplace should call (617) 384-9604 as soon as possible to reserve space on the exhibition calendar. Your department may even qualify for a free wine-and-cheese opening reception! (3/30/04)
Four schools save enough energy to drive 44 cars for a year
The Harvard Green Campus Initiative (HGCI) announced Friday, December 5, that the second annual Go Cold Turkey competition was a huge success, with the energy savings from the computers alone being equivalent to taking 44 cars off the road. Congratulations and thank you to all those who participated! (12/8/03)
Harvard School of Public Health announces Renewable Energy Challenge for Shattuck House
Did you know that if all the residents of Shattuck House turned off their computers and lights when not in use, they would save roughly 70,000 lbs of CO2 per year? That's equivalent to taking 6 cars off the road. (11/6/03)
Harvard's Longwood Schools to compete with the Faculty of Arts and Sciences to Go Cold Turkey
Take the Pledge and Go Cold Turkey! This Thanksgiving, Harvard will have something special to give thanks for: less pollution and CO2 emissions due to reduced energy use! In addition, groups that register to compete will have the chance to win a wine-and-cheese event for their efforts to reduce Harvard's energy use! (10/28/03)
FAS Computer Energy Reduction Program wins Energy Star Leadership Award
The Faculty of Arts and Sciences Computer Energy Reduction Program (FAS CERP), founded in 2001 to increase energy efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and the Kennedy School of Government (KSG) have received Leadership Awards from Energy Star, a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency program helping businesses and individuals protect the environment through superior energy efficiency.
