Greener Laundry at HMS's Vanderbilt Hall

Vanderbilt has energy efficient washing machines that need less detergent than conventional machines (only 2 Tablespoons) and have many settings which are not obvious to the user. LGCI has worked with the owners of the machines to create new labels that encourage residents to choose the cold water options, saving energy used to heat the water.

droppOutreach in the laundry rooms also educates residents about greening their laundry. Residents have also been able to try out a more eco-friendly laundry detergent, dropps, thanks to a generous donation from the company.

Shattuck Dorm Achieves Energy Star Designation energy star logo

The Shattuck International House dormitory, part of the Harvard School of Public Health, is the first residence hall in Boston and one of the first dormitories in the country to earn an Energy Star Label.

In order to provide ongoing education to its residents, Shattuck House periodically emails energy saving tips to all residents. Each month, the Harvard Green Campus Initiative sends out an email with a "Green Tip of the Month," with some great tips on saving energy.
