Each Pledge = Renewable Energy for Harvard
The number of pledges thus far for the 2008-2009 campaign: 1
There are many reasons to take this pledge - to learn more about what you can do to reduce your individual impact, to show support for Harvard's University-wide Greenhouse Gas Reduction Commitment, and as a way to help remind yourself to develop good eco-friendly habits.
And there is one more good reason - in response to each pledge taken this year, Harvard will put $1.50 toward renewable energy for every pledge received by December 31, 2008.
2007 was the first year in which the money was put towards on campus renewable energy (in previous years the renewable energy was purchased in the form of "Renewable Energy Certificates" from wind farms in Minnesota). The $12,000 raised last year were used to put a solar thermal hot water system on 3 Sacramento Street (an undergraduate co-op)- see image below. This year, Harvard will fund a similar on campus project with the money raised by your pledge!
