This program was originally the product of five Harvard constituencies coming together with a common goal of engaging FAS dorm residents in reducing the waste production and resource consumption of student dorms. The five constituencies are the Harvard College Environmental Action Committee, FAS Office of Physical Resources, University Operations Services Recycling and Waste Management, FAS Computer Energy Reduction Program, and the Harvard Green Campus Initiative. The latter five groups, joined by our new partner, Harvard University Dining Services, are contributing to the REP budget of wages, publicity, and administration. We also receive grants and in-kind donations from on- and off-campus sponsors, ranging from local businesses to the Environmental Protection Agency.
The Resource Efficiency Program has an annual operating budget of just over $90,000. Staff time translates into an approximate ratio of 1 hour of REP Coordinator time to every 4 hours of Rep student time when considering dollar for dollar.
